Thoughtmade Mini – MAKE for kids.

Hi everyone!

At last years Thoughtmade, there were around 300 guests participating, mingling, talking and showing off cool stuff. All the numbers were right – Danes, Women, Entrepreneurs. But only 2 kids were there. this has to change.
This year, kids, science and technology will be one of the things we want to explore within the Thoughtmade concepts. If we are to have a future as a service society with small, specialized companies, we need to show our kids how to be creative, how much fun tinkering and MAKEing stuff is, and that you only truly own toys if you can break them.
To start off the concept we will take 6 kids from Altona Förskola in Malmö to Stapelbäddsparken this week and test a number of activities with them – breaking electronics with hammers and soldering irons, plumbing the remains back into something useful, build their ow instrument, and more.

If things go well, we think there is a number of great opportunities here:

  • Scale the concept so all kids 5-10 years could have the possibility to experience science hands on – using the GREAT infrastructure that Malmö municipality has been installing at Stapelbäddsparken.
  • Make activities for kids and youth an integral part of the MAKE movement of Sweden. If we can teach our children the coolness of creative activities at the border of the physical and virtual world before gender roles and peer pressure influences kick in, we are going to have more engineers and women in technology as the outcome.

Just a heads up – stay tuned for the Thoughtmade movement ramping up. Also – if you want to be part of this, please contact us! All hands, brains and voices are needed to transform the Öresund Region into the most awesome place to live and work on the planet!
